Conflict Resolution and Assertiveness Skills for Children
Complaints are an inevitable part of delivering childcare and, when handled effectively, can provide valuable opportunities to build trust with families, schools and other stakeholders, improve practice, and strengthen provider confidence. By supporting providers to develop easy to follow complaints processes Local Authorities can help providers to resolve concerns at the earliest opportunity.
This session will explore how Local Authorities can support providers to manage parental complaints effectively, ensuring concerns are addressed fairly, consistently, and professionally. We will consider common challenges providers face, practical approaches to resolving complaints, and how complaints can be used as a tool for continuous improvement rather than something to be feared.
Effective Complaint Processes in School-Aged Childcare
This session will explore how providers can support children to become more assertive, communicate their needs effectively, and resolve conflicts in a positive way. We'll look at practical strategies, activities and everyday opportunities to help children build confidence, develop empathy, understand different perspectives, and find solutions when disagreements arise. The aim is to give providers simple, realistic approaches that can be embedded into daily practice and help children develop skills that will benefit them both now and in the future.
Supporting The Workforce and Evidencing Impact of Coaching and Supervision
How Local Authorities can help providers strengthen staff development and evidence impact at inspection
Session Aim
To support Local Authority staff to understand EYFS expectations around supervision and coaching, and to confidently guide providers in developing strong staff support systems that improve practice and stand up to inspection.
Assessment of Individual Needs of Children
This introductory training session will help practitioners understand the importance of assessing the individual needs of children to ensure they receive appropriate support, opportunities, and experiences. The session will explore how observation, communication, partnership working, and reflective practice contribute to identifying children's strengths, needs, interests, and barriers to participation.
Reflective Practice: Creating a Culture of Continuous Improvement
This session will explore how providers can build reflection into their daily and weekly routines without creating unnecessary paperwork or additional workload. We'll look at practical ways teams can reflect on children's experiences, the quality of play opportunities, activities, environments and interactions, and how these reflections can be used to inform future practice. The aim is to help providers create a culture where reflection becomes a natural part of everyday practice and continuous improvement.
SEND and Inclusion Practice Forum – Collaborative Problem Solving
This interactive online session provides childcare, wraparound, and playwork staff with a supportive space to discuss real-life SEND and inclusion challenges from their own settings/services. Participants will have the opportunity to share concerns, reflect on practice, explore solutions, and learn from the experiences of colleagues.
The session is designed as a facilitated discussion rather than a formal training course, encouraging collaborative problem-solving, reflective practice, and confidence-building.
The focus is on understanding needs, sharing strategies, and identifying practical actions that can support children and young people with SEND in childcare and wraparound settings.

To support Local Authorities to understand the role of leadership and organisational culture in sustaining high-quality wraparound provision, and to explore how they can influence and support providers without overstepping into operational management.
